Ambilight ESP32 HomeKit
A dual-mode ESP32-C3 LED controller that bridges Hyperion ambient TV backlighting with Apple HomeKit smart-light control.
What it does
Bridges TV-reactive Hyperion backlighting and Apple HomeKit so one ESP32 controller can switch between live ambient lighting and regular smart-light control.
Key Highlights
- Streams raw RGB data from Hyperion over UDP for real-time TV backlighting.
- Falls back to Apple HomeKit light control when Hyperion data stops.
- Uses a mode arbitration flow so reactive lighting and smart-home control do not fight each other.
- Controls a 240 LED WS2812B strip from an ESP32-C3 Super Mini.
- Documents hardware wiring, HomeKit pairing, Hyperion setup, and performance tradeoffs.
Role and Contributions
- Built the ESP32-C3 firmware for WiFi, UDP packet handling, LED output, and HomeKit polling.
- Designed the automatic transition between Hyperion mode and HomeKit mode.
- Mapped HomeKit HSV state into LED strip RGB output.
- Prepared setup documentation for wiring, flashing, pairing, and Hyperion configuration.
