Pico Hyperion Sentinel
An interactive ambient lighting and animatronic eye system that syncs LED lighting, servo movement, and eye expressions from Hyperion UDP data.
What it does
Reads Hyperion lighting data and turns it into physical ambient behavior, synchronizing LEDs, head movement, and eye expressions with the brightest areas of the screen.
Key Highlights
- Connected a Raspberry Pi Pico W to Hyperion over UDP for wireless lighting control.
- Drove an 8-LED WS2812 strip synchronized with Hyperion screen capture.
- Used servo movement to rotate the head toward the brightest part of the screen.
- Animated two 8x8 LED matrices as eyes that blink, glance, and look toward the head direction.
- Documented hardware requirements, wiring, Arduino dependencies, and Hyperion UDPRaw setup.
Role and Contributions
- Designed the Pico W hardware integration for LEDs, servo, and I2C eye matrices.
- Implemented the real-time behavior loop that maps screen-lighting data into motion and expressions.
- Prepared wiring and setup documentation for replicating the build.
- Balanced playful physical behavior with practical embedded control constraints.
